Last month I bought a beautiful black 2002 model. I didn't ride it yet, it went directly to indoor storage after being transported from the bikeshop to my place. Winter came early here so I didn't want to ride on it before spring. A nice feeling to have the bike standing in my room and I'm looking at it daily ;-)
Some days ago I wanted to hear the engine running. I opened all windows and placed a long exhaust tube for tumble dryers around the bikes exhaust and further out through the window in order get rid of C02 in my room.
Turned on the engine and let it run for a couple of minutes. Nice feeling to hear the big single.
Now I wanted to stop the engine, but I was totally disturbed this day so I pressed the ignition button instead of the red stop button! I pressed the ignition button not more than 2 seconds, and I didn't hear any dangerous and fatal noise from starter engine gears etc. Finally after having pressed the ignition button after these two seconds the engine stoped by itself.
Suddenly I realised what a mistake I'd made, so I wanted to I start again to check. No problem. I stopped again, using the red stop, no problem.
I know I should not tell anyone, cause this is embarrasing, but since the machine is new, I would like your comments on possible risks of damaging the engine or the starter by activating the ignition button while the engine is running idle ?
See you out there in March or April !
